Abstract

PURPOSE: To achieve the improvement in printing speed by controlling printing of fixed printing items and variable printing items to and from a turning drum with a recording head and an erase head making auxiliary scanning in the row direction.

CONSTITUTION: A character pattern draw-out mechainsm 303 subsequently reads out the character patterns from a character generator 302 according to the data from a computer, etc. 301, and converts the same to line scanning signals by way of a line scanning signal generating mechanism 304. Recording to a turning drum 309 by a recording head 308 and erasing by an erase head 307 for the purpose of preparing for recording of the next page are accomplished by a head control part 306 to which these signals and the auxiliary scanning fast feed signal in the column direction from the draw-out mechanism 303 are applied. In this case, printing of the fixed items common to all pages and variable printing items are performed by way of the head 308 and on the sesond and subsequent pages, the fixed printing items are skipped and are not printed and the same holds true of erasing with the head 307, thus the printing is accomplished at a high speed by skipping of recording and erasing of the unnecessary columns
