Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an adduct of glyoxal-amide useful as a high quality fiber treatment, by the addition of polyurethane having a terminal isocyanate group to the reaction mixture obtained from a glyoxal and an amide.
CONSTITUTION: An adduct of glyoxal-amide having no amine- and amide-like odor is obtained by the addition of polyurethane having a terminal isocyanate group during or after the preparation of the adduct of glyoxal-amide from a glyoxal and an amide. Dimethyl urea is especially preferable as the amide. The polyurethance having a terminal isocyanate group is preferably self-emulsifiable or water-soluble. In case that the polyurethane is added during the preparation, it should be added when the reaction ceased. The reaction is carried out in an aqueous medium, preferably in water.
EFFECT: The smell can be completely eliminated. The shrink resistance, impact resilience, etc. of textile can be improved.
