Abstract

PURPOSE: To operate a swirling jet flow bed furnace for combusting EP-ash in continuous and efficient manner, while preventing sticking of molten substances to the wall of the furnace, by keeping the temperature in the furnace at a level higher than the temperature capable of combusting carbon but lower than the melting point of EP-ash.
CONSTITUTION: At the bottom of swirling jet flow bed furnace 1, there is provided a grid 2 having nozzles for ejecting air supplied from pressurized air chamber 3, and a pressurized air supplying nozzle 6 also serving to discharge combustion residue to the outside is provided at the lower end of the grid 2. EP-ash is supplied into the furnace from EP-ash supplying means 8 and combusted in the furnace while being forcibly swirled together with fluidic medium 10 such as sand, particles of heat-resisting material, etc. In order that NH3 and SO3 produced by the decomposition of ammonium sulfate contained in the EP-ash may not be re-united and re- crystallized, temperature in the furnace is kept at a level higher than 650°C but lower than 780°C, preferably higher than 700°C but lower than 730°C, that is, a temperature higher than a level capable of combusting carbon but lower than the melting point of EP-ash
