Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a method of controlling ventilation in a tunnel, which is capable of controlling the air pollution level in the tunnel at a value lower than a predetermined reference level with a minimal amount of mechanical power required for the ventilation of the tunnel, whereby it is enabled to prevent operating the ventilating system longer than an actually required, minimal time length.
CONSTITUTION: Outputs of detector 37, such as pulse indicating passing of vehicle, pulse indicating vehicle speed, pulse indicating passing of a large vehicle, widnd direction and speed 35 in tunnerl, degree of pollution 34 in the tunnel, are supplied to operational unit or arithmetic unit 31. Traffic volume, velocity and rate of diesel vehicles are detected from said pulses 37, and amount of ventillated air is detected from signal 35. Further, average degree of air pollution in the tunnel is detected from signal 34, and pollution generating rate is detected from the gradient peculiar to the tunnel structure, pollution generating data of vehicles, traffic volume, vehicle speed, and rate of diesel vehicles in the traffic volume. The above ventilating system is controlled by determining a minimal amount of wind, etc. by the use of the results of the above various measurement and ventilating equation based on physical laws, such that pollutin level in the tunnel is kept within a required range after passing of a certain time period
