Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain an image of high sensitivity, high contrast and high density by a negative type diffusion transfer process with a silver saving photosensitive material , by combining photosensitive silver halide with particles of a specific matal salt and physically developing nuclei. CONSTITUTION:Photosensitive silver halide such as silver iodobromide is combined with particles of a metal salt such as silver chloride the surface of which is difficultly solubilized with a difficultly solubilizing agent such as 1-phenyl-5-mercaptotetrazole and which itself is more soluble than silver halide and practically has no photosensitivity, and physically developing nuclei such as noble metal colloid, and they are attached onto a suppport. The resulting photographic element is imagewise exposed and treated with a treating liquid containing a reducing agent such as hydroquinone and a substance dissolving the particles, e.g. Na2SO3. As the silver halide is developed, the particles at the exposed portion are selectively dissolved in the presence of Na2SO3 and deposited as a metal image on the nuclei.
