Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the heat exchanging efficiency by communicating the lower end portion of each heat pipe with the heat radiation portion.
CONSTITUTION: The heated cooling water from an engine is introduced into a cooling water passage 21 and flows on the upper surface of a jacket 12 and between heat absorption fins 14. As a result, in the heat absorbing section of the heat exchnger 10, the working fluid residing in heat pipes 11 and in the jacket 12 remove the heat from the hot cooling water and is evaporated to flow upward through the heat pipes 11. On the other hand, the hot cooling water introduced into the passage 21 is cooled and recirculated to the engine via an outlet 21. In this operation, the vapor generated at a large rate at the left heat absorbing portion is made to flow into the right heat radiation portion where the amount of the vapour is comparatively small, through the communication tubes 13, as denoted by arrows, and is cooled to be condensed at the righ heat radiation portion. This operation is repeatedly performed in a cyclic manner while the hot cooling water is circulated through the passage 21, so that the engine cooling water is cooled in an adequate manner
