Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce the dispersion of luminance brightness due to a holding voltage, by driving a unit with the variabke width of a selective pulse applied to a vertical electrode line. CONSTITUTION:Pulse P1 of amplitude VW modulated corresponding to a video signal is applied to horizontal electrode H1, and pulse P2 of + or -VS is to vertical electrode V1 in order to make VW below a half VS. Then, electrode V1 is selected with pulse P3 of -VE. On the other hand, electrode V8 selected with pulse P4 is applied with maintenance pulse P2. For picture element (11), composed write pulse P5 is formed and the time until the next maintenance pulse relating to luminescence is Tb. Picture element (81) is written with pulse P6, and requires Ta until the next maintenance pulse.
