Abstract

PURPOSE: Stevioside separated by the adsorption on an adsorbent of synthetic resin is further contacted with a specific ion exchange resin to produce high-purity and colorless stevioside.
CONSTITUTION: An aqueous solution containing stevioside is brought into contact with an adsorbent of synthetic resin with macro network structure and stevioside is selectively adsorbed on the resin. Then the stevioside is eluted with a solvent to form a stevioside solution, which is contacted with an ampholytic ion exchange resin, preferably a resin with phenolic hydroxyl groups and amine residues to adsorb color substances thereby producing purified stevioside.
