Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a film having improved smoothness, glossiness, and hardness, by setting a specific photo-setting coating material applied to a porous inorganic substrate twice with a flow coater.
CONSTITUTION: A photo-setting coating material, preferably an unsaturated spiroacetal resin of the formula (R is H, or CH3 group; G is glycol residue, etc.; n is an integer 0W20), having a viscosity below 80°C of 0.2W10 poises is applied to a porous inorganic substrate, e.g. a gypsum product, with a flow coater to form a film 20W500 μ thick. The film is allowed to stand within 20 min, irradiated with light e.g. ultraviolet, and set within 5 min. The coating material is then applied to the film with a flow coater to form a film 20W500 μ thick, irradiated with light, and set to give the total set film thickness of 20W900 μ.
