Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a highly active hydrodesulfurization catalyst capable of maintaining its high activity over a long term by supporting a catalytic component on alumina obtd. by calcining a complex of boehmite and γ-alumina.
CONSTITUTION: An adequate amt. of water is added to a complex of boehmite and 5W140 wt% of γ-alumina to the amt. of the boehmite as anhydrous alumina, and the water-added complex is molded into a desired shape and size by extrusion molding, spherical molding or the like. The moldings are then dried at 70W150°C and calcined in air of 500W800°C for 2W10 hr to prepare alumina carrier. By supporting catalytically active VIb and VIII group metal oxides or sulfides on the carrier by a known method in an arbitrary stage of the alumina carrier forming process mentioned above, a hydrodesulfurization catalyst is obtd.
