Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide the title cheap compsn. capable of freely controlling its oxidation speed and vol., requiring addn. of no free water, and contg. one or more kinds of metals out of iron, copper and zinc, and silicic acid.
CONSTITUTION: To one or more kinds of below 10 mesh metals out of iron, copper and zinc as component (a) is added powder silicic acid as component (b) in an amt. of 0.01W100, pref. 0.05W50 parts by wt. to 1 part of the component (a). As the component (b) content is made higher, the oxygen absorbing speed of the resulting compsn. is increased, yet too high content reduces oxygen absorbing vol. per unit compsn. wt. 0.001W100 parts of a metal halide such as NaCl as component (c) may be added to 1 part of the component (a) to improve the oxygen absorbing speed and vol. This compsn. is used as an oxygen absorbent to prevent degeneration and deterioration of food, etc., and it can also be used as a heating element or a heat insulating material.
