Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent stress-corrosion cracking by the procedure in which an object to be heated is kept beforehand inside a pipe and then heated to a high temperature so as to produce a temperature difference between the outside and inside surfaces of the pipe, whereby causing a tensile yield to take place in the inside and also a comrpressive yield to take place in the outside.
CONSTITUTION: The fluid 7 heated is put in the inside of the pipe 2, and then the outside surface of the pipe 2 is heated to higher temperature by means of the heating coil 3 so as to produce a temperature difference between the outside and inside surfaces, whereby causing a tensile yield to take place in the inside and also a compressive yield to take place in the outside. Thus, it is possible to increase the strength and also to prevent the occurrence of stress-corrosion cracking in the pipe.
