Abstract

PURPOSE: To effect the jam detection with the use of a single timer, even when two sheets of copy paper exist in a conveyor passage, by starting the operations of the timer under the condition having only one sheet of the copy paper in the conveyor passage so that the operating time limit of the timer is set within a preset range.
CONSTITUTION: A first sheet of copy paper has its feed started at time t1 and is discharged out of a copier at time t2, thus ending the copying operation. A next sheet of copy paper is fed at time t3 before the time t2 and is discharged at t4 after the time t2. In case two or more sheets of copy paper exist in the conveyor passage, the signals at times ts1, ts2 and so on the condition under which only one sheet of the copy paper exists in the passage are taken out to start the operations of the timer. The time limit of this timer is set more than the time, which is required for the copy paper corresponding to an obstacle to pass over the terminal end portion of the passage, and within a range until the timer starting signal generation corresponding to the accompanying copy paper. When the copy paper is not discharged within that time limit, the condition is detected as the jam of the copy paper.
