PURPOSE:To produce a stereophonic system, which can attain an excellent front sound image and a large stereophonic windening feeling, with the use of a headphone by converting the stereophonic acoustic aignals, which are to be applied to the headphone, in a manner to satisfy a preset condition. CONSTITUTION:Right and left stereophonic signals Ir and Il for speaker reproduction are converted in a manner to satisfy the condition of Eguation I with the use of a signal converting circuit SXC which is eguipped with both with circuits 14r and 14l as corresponds to the ratio B/A of the acoustic transmission coefficients A and B of two speakers, if so assumed, and the respective ears of a listener M and with character adders 13r, 13l, 15r and 15l. The right and left signals Or and Ol thus converted by the circuit SXC are applied to headphones HA having a substantially equal transmitting property in case the sound is located at the front so that the streophonically reprodcued sounds having an excellent front image and a large stereophonic windening feeling can be listened to through headphone units 11 and 12 in a similar manner to the stereophonic sounds by the speaker reproduction.
