Abstract
PURPOSE: A phototrophic bacterium belonging to Rhodopseudomonas is cultivated in a medium containing grain syrup to produce the cell bodies that are nutritious and useful as feed for livestock inexpensively in an industrial scale.
CONSTITUTION: A phototrophic bacterium belonging to Rhodopseudomonas, e.g., Rhodopseudomonas Sphreudes S, FERM-P No.1410, is cultivated in a medium containing 0.1W10%, based on the medium, of grain syrup, distillation waste of whisky, or a medium of only diluted grain syrup, at a temperature of preferably 28W 32°C for 24W48hr under passing air and stirring. After cultivation, the cell bodies are collected by centrifuge or coagulation and dried. The addition of grain syrup increases the yield of the cell body by 50W200% compared with the case where no grain syrup is added.
