Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable starting friction and dynamical friction resistance to be measured automatically and continuously by changing the sliding speed, contact load, fluctuating load, and their synchronization as desired at the fluctuating loading.
CONSTITUTION: The grease to be evaluation-tested is coated and mounted between a stationary test piece 7 and a sliding test piece 1 and a weight 10 is so adjusted as to apply a necessary contact load. Next, the sliding speed, frequency of fluctuating load and operatiom time intervals are properly adjusted by a control-operation mechansim 6. When the adjustment of all the test conditions are completed, a driving mechansim 5 is operated, then a shaft 4 causes a sliding base 2 to perform continuous reciprocating slide motion automatically and a fluctuating load application synchronizing mechansim 15 to operate, letting the fluctuating load be applied by an eccentric cam 12 and spring 11. The sliding friction resistance during the operations is detected with a friction force measuring sensor 8.
