Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce olefins which are basic raw materials in petrochemical industry, safely in high yield with suppresion of the formation of coke, by blowing hydrocarbons into molten salts (preheating), followed by pyrolyzing and cooling.
CONSTITUTION: In the production of olefins by the pyrolysis and the cooling of hydrocarbons, the hydrocarbons are introduced into a molten salt and preheated to a temperature at which the first coking and cleavage of said hydrocarbons occur. Subsequently, the preheated hydrocarbons are passed through a reaction pipe which is heated to a temperature above the decomposition temperature of said hydrocarbons, together with entrained molten salts, to produce olefins. Steam for dilution may be supplied dividedly before and after the preheating of the hydrocarbons.
