Abstract

PURPOSE: Catalytic components of Pt, Rh and chloride of a specific element are incorporated into a carrier to provide a waste gas NOx cleaning catalyst highly effective oxidation atmsphere as well as reducing atmosphere.
CONSTITUTION: A carrier such as cordierite is incorporated with 0.01 to 5 wt%, particulay 0.03 to 1 wt% of Pt and Rh, and a chloride of element selected from a specific proportion of Ca, Mg, Ba, Mn, Fe, etc. to provide a waste gas cleaning catalyst. A preferable amount of such chloride component is 5 to 500, particularly 50 to 20 moles per one atom as converted metal of Pt and Rh carried material in total. A preferable atomic ratio of Pt:Rh is 1:0.01W40, particuraly 1:0.1W20. Such catalyst is effective in high cleaning ratio, simultaneous removal of NOx including toxic gas such as CO, HC, etc. from waste gas, without decreasing fuel cost ratio of internal combustion engines.
