Abstract

PURPOSE: In an image display device wherein electric current causes visula change in a medium, such medium is incorporated with a pearl pigment, thereby providing the device with an excellent effect of image display.
CONSTITUTION: The image display device uses conventional electrode material, coloring and decoloring substance, electrolyte, or inactive solvent. Particularly in this invention, the coloring and decoloring substance is added with 10 to 50 wt% of a pearl pigment such as TiO2 coated mica, or mica based titanium. The device operates in three steps. For write, a DC voltage is applied from external source to make the active electrode 1 negative, and the opposite electrode 2 positive. For memory, the source voltage is opend. For erase, the voltage is applied in the reversal of write so that the electrode 1 is positive and the electrode 2 negative. The pearl pigment dispersion in the medium effectively covers the opposite electrode by its pearl brilliance.
