Abstract
PURPOSE: To sufficiently and surely absorb the thermal expansion and back pressure of an exhaust system having a catalytic converter and supported at the chassis of an automobile.
CONSTITUTION: Two exhaust pipes 2, 3 coupled to an engine 1 are connected to a single exhaust pipe 4 which communicates with a muffler. The catalytic converter 5 is installed at the coupled ends of the exhaust pipes 2, 3, 4. A bracket 31 is provided at an appropriate part of the downstream exhaust pipe 4. One end of the bracket 31 is fixed on the exhaust pipe 4 and the other end is fixed on the bottom 32 of the chassis. The bracket extends along the circumference of the exhaust pipe 4 and has bent parts 31a, 31b near the exhaust pipe 4 and the bottom 32 of the chassis. The exhaust pipe 4 is supported by the bracket 31 under the chassis so that the thermal expansion of the exhaust system is absorbed.
