Abstract
PURPOSE: To efficiently purify exhaust gas, by devising a method of introducing the exhaust gas into a catalytic converter and by dispersing and retarding the flow of the gas by its spontaneous flow without strengthening the back pressure.
CONSTITUTION: Two exhaust pipes 2, 3 coupled to the exhaust ports of a right and a left cylinders of an engine 1 are connected to a single exhaust pipe 4 which communicates with a muffler. The catalytic converter 5 is installed at the coupled ends of the exhaust pipes 2, 3, 4. The converter 5 has a catalyst shell 6. The shell comprises two gas inlet ports 12, 13 opened obliquely in the face of each other near the inlet face of a catalyst carrier 7 provided in the converter 5, and a gas outlet port 14. The exhaust pipes 2, 3 are connected to the inlet ports 12, 13, respectively. The exhaust pipe 4 is connected to the outlet port 14.
