Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a stainless steel contg. a specific amt. of C, Si, Mn, Ni, Cr, Mo and Nb, and having superior pitting and crevice corrosion resistance to seawater or a chlorine ion-contg. soln., high acid resistance and good mechanical properties.
CONSTITUTION: The stainless steel consists of C≤0.06%, Si≤3.0%, Mn≤2.0%, Ni; 20.0W50.0%, Cr; 24.0W30.0%, Mo; 4.0W15.0%, Nb; above 12 times as high as the C contentWbelow 2.0%, and the balance Fe and inevitable impurities. When the steel is used as a material for a machine, member, etc. handling seawater, e.g. seawater pump, it prevents occurence of pitting or crevice corrosion and elongates its endurance life.
