Abstract

PURPOSE: To increase reducibility and contractibility of iron ore pellets when used in a blast furnace, by addn. of Ba cod. to the compound raw material of the iron ore pellets to be used in the blast furnace.
CONSTITUTION: To a powdered mixt. of iron ore with lime stone is added 1W2% bentonite as a binder to produce iron ore pellets for use in a blast furnace. In that case, 0.1W10.0% Ba cpd. (converted into BaO), e.g., BaO, BaCO3, Ba(OH)2 is compounded to the above-described mixt. After adjustment of moisture content, the compound thus obtained is granulated by a pan pelletizer, then it is pre-heated, dried, and is calcined in oxidizing atmosphere. Compounding of the Ba cpd. causes to increase the reductibility of iron oxide, in addn., to decrease contractibility of the pellets in the blast furnace, and to reduce pressure loss in the furnace, removing slip and hanging.
