Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce the cost of an identical-speed universal joint and permit of its mass production, by restricting an inner member, an outer member, an intermediate member and a retainer by one another and retaining balls on the bisecting plane of the angle between a driving shaft and a driven shaft by the combination of the intermediate member with the retainer. CONSTITUTION:The outside surface of the inner member 1 consists of a spherical face 1' and a conical face 1''. The axis of the conical face 1'' is made coincident with that of the inner member 1 and the vertical angle of the conical face is made larger than the angle between the driving shaft and the driven shaft. Several recesses 2 are provided on the outside surface of the inner member. The inside surface of the outer member 3 consists of a spherical face 3' and a conical face 3''. The axis of the conical face 3'' is made coincident with that of the outer member 3 and the vertical angle of the conical face is made larger than the angle between the driving shaft and the driven shaft. The same number of recesses 4 as the recesses 2 are provided on the inside surface of the outer member 3. The balls 9 are placed at the intersections of the recesses 2, 4 and restricted by the retainer 7 and the intermediate member 5. Thus, precision forging can be utilized to mass- produce the inner member, the outer member and the intermediate member at low cost, and thin plate drawing can be utilized to also mass-produce the retainer at low cost.
