Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect the light outside visible region without cutting optical fiber by mounting a transparent member containing fluorescent material to the outside of the optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:A transparent member 1 constituted by glass, acrylic, or other containing about 20 to 30% of fluorescent material such as phophorus compound or the like is mounted on the outside of an optical fiber 2 composed of a core part 3 and a clad part 4 in close contact with the optical fiber 2. Then, when the light (light otside visible regions) transmitting through the core part 3 of the optical fiber 2 reflects at the boundary of the core part 3 and clad part 4, part thereof scatters and enters the clad part 4 and straightly enters the transparent member 1, where it is converted to the light of the visible regions by the fluorescent material in the transprent member 1, whereby it is made detectable.
