Abstract

PURPOSE:To ensure an optional adjustment of the effective storage time for the charge at the photo sensor part by providing the charge exhaustion part to exhaust the unnecessary charge and thus exhausting when necessary the charge to be stored or already stored at the photo sensor part. CONSTITUTION:The double transfer-type CCD photo sensor consists of photo sensor part 1, transfer gate 2, charge transfer part 3 and output part 4. Charge exhaustion part 8 plus control gate part 7 to control the flow-in of the charge generated at part 1 into part 8 are added to the CCD photo sensor. After the charge stored at part 1 is taken into part 3, gate voltage phiC is applied for some period to part 7. As a result, the charge generated at part 1 flows into part 8 and then exhausted through exhaustion terminal 8b. When voltage phiC is applied temporarily in the state under which the charge is being stored at part 1, the charge so far stored is taken into part 8 to be exhausted. Thus, the effective storage time of the charge can be adjusted for part 1.
