Abstract

PURPOSE: Ferromagnetic metal powder produced in wet reducting process is continuously dried and heat treated in nonoxidizing atomosphere, whereby O2 concentration is detected from nonoxdizing gas which flows through both process. The detected value is used for control so that O2 will not exceed a specified value thereby to assure safety.
CONSTITUTION: Ferromagnetic metal powder solution produced by wet reduction process is charged in the tank A through pipe 1. To prevent oxidation, innert gas such as N2 is admitted into the tank A through pipe 3, purging air, while the metal powder solution is stirred by the blades 5 and sent to the precipitation tank B at regular time through pump P1. From the tank B, separated water is extracted from top and slurry is sent from the bottom to the drier C. Nonoxdizing gas is continuously fed from the heater H to the drier C, which is heated while being agitated by the blade 15. In this manner, the metal powder is passed through the heat treatment device D to the production tank E while being protected by innert gas atomosphere. In order to control oxygen concentration in the drier C and the heat treatment device D, O2 concentration detector is installed so that when O2 exceeds explosion limit, for example 25%, N2 gas is automatically introduced into the system to thereby prevent explosion.
