Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain metallic Se suitable for use as an electrophotographic photoreceptor, a semiconductor material, etc. by treating a commercially available Se material with a liquid org. substance.
CONSTITUTION: A commercially available Se material with a crystallinity (content of hexagonal system chain structure molecules) below 40% is dipped in or passed through a liquid such as benzyl cyanide, benzimidobutyl ester, P-β-anisaldoxime, piperidine, pyridine, aniline, quinoline or triethylamine, followed by washing and drying. Thus, the crystallinity is raised to above 40%. By raising the liquid temp. to above 80°C the treating time is reduced, and by raising the drying temp. to above 40°C higher crystallinity is attained. A photoreceptor obtd. by vacuum depositing the resulting metallic Se on an electrically conductive support has superior xerographic characteristics and undergoes very little repeated fatigue.
