Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide a phosphor the luminous efficiency of which can be enhanced with little emission spectral change by excitation with ultraviolet rays of 254 nm, by adding one or more kinds of elements selected from Al, Ga, Si, etc. to the matrix crystals of a Eu2+-activated alkaline earth metal borate phosphate phosphor.
CONSTITUTION: 0.01W0.14 gram atom of one or more kinds of elements selected from Al, Ga, Si, Ge, Zr and S is added to the matrix crystal of a Eu2+-activated alkaline earth metal borate phosphate phosphor represented by formula I. The resulting phosphor includes 2(Sr0.99Eu0.010).0.798P2O5.0.152B2O3. 0.05Al2O3. It is excited with ultraviolet rays of short and long wavelengths. blue visible radiation and cathode-rays, emitting highly efficient blue luminescence of a max. luminous wavelength 480W490 nm. Accordingly, the phosphor can be used in a mercury vapor discharge lamp such as fluorescent lamp and a cathode-ray tube.
