Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the friction between a reciprocating piston and a cylinder liner and smooth the reciprocating motion of the piston, by supplying oil into a recess on the central part of the skirt of the piston. CONSTITUTION:When the piston 5 is reciprocating, oil scatters inside the wall 16 of the piston 5 and is received by a receiving part 17 so that the oil flows into the recess 12 on the central part of the skirt 11 of the piston through ports 15. The pressure P of the oil is distributed as shown in Fig. in the upward motion and downward motion of the piston 5. The piston 5 is pushed toward its axis by the oil pressure raised at a predetermined point in the recess 12. Thus, the contact area between the skirt 11 and the cylinder liner 2 is reduced, namely, the friction between them is reduced.
