Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce coated cemented carbides by coating a cemented carbide, consisting mainly of tungsten carbide which is bound chiefly with Co, with tantalum nitride of hexagonal structure (B 35 type structure), then by treating the coated cemented carbides at a specific high temperature and high pressure so that the hexagonal structure is transformed into face-centered cubic structure, with resulting improvement in flank wear resistance and face wear resistance.
