Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a method for producing a ferromagnetic iron oxide powder, comprising causing β-FeOOH to adhere on a ϒ-Fe2O3 magnetic powder, and thereafter heating the powder in a reducing gas or further heating in an oxidizing gas, thereby to obtain a ferromagnetic iron oxide powder well adapted for a reducing element of a magnetic recorder.
