Packaging machine with automatic selector wedge changing assembly
Field of the invention
The present invention generally relates to a packaging machine and a method for packaging an article in a container.
You. More specifically, the present invention relates to a continuous action packaging machine,
The machine uses a flight-type selector wedge to sort the articles in a predetermined number and
The group of arrays, the flight-type selector wedges, the pre-formed three
Container, such as a carton or package made of paperboard
Introduce a group of goods into the office.
Background of the Invention
Continuous motion packaging machines are well known in the art. Continuous motion including end loading machine
Packaging and packaging machines typically provide a selected number of articles (e.g., beverage containers) where desired.
Group into group sizes or group arrays. Examples of these arrays are
6 packs of 6 beverage containers, half case lot of 12 beverage containers, and 24
Includes case lot of individual beverage containers. The size or arrangement of the various products or articles
Depending on the packaging machine being used and the desired arrangement of the articles,
obtain.
In the operation of a normal continuous operation packaging machine, the articles are placed out of order in the selector device.
Supplied equally. Next, the selector device arranges the articles in a predetermined arrangement or pattern.
Group. Usually, the selector device is used with the lane splitting / guide assembly.
The lane splitting / guide assembly is used to separate articles, either alone or as a group.
Pre-formed sleeve-shaped carton or package made of paperboard
Toward the open end and into or into them.
Early continuous-motion packaging machines included an article selection function, an article grouping function, and an article packaging function.
Packaging functions should be performed at discrete steps where flow interruptions in the packaging process are required.

In order to achieve this, each selector wedge is inserted into the large-diameter portion 38 of the slot opening 37 for each selector wedge.
Moved straight up.
The second wedge storage pallet 72 has a selector wedge 92 of the second series.
-Stay in its extended position until it is removed from belt 13.
You. The second series of wedge selector wedges is the first series of selector wedges described above.
It is removed from the selector belt 13 in the same manner as the wedge.
Third series selector wedge 93 stored on third wedge storage pallet 73
On the selector belt if and when it is desired.
The wedge storage pallets 71 and 72 are both moved to their retracted position.
Accordingly, the carriage assembly 51 is driven along the length of the horizontal guide rail 52.
As a result, the carriage assembly 51 and the wedge exchange head 57

The wedge is removed from the third wedge storage pallet.
The process of placing them on the selector belt 13 is the above-described second series of selection.
It is repeated as if against a wedge.
Although only three wedge storage pallets are shown in FIGS. 3-6B, more or less
Fewer wedge pallets can be used to meet the needs of packaging machine operators and the size of packaging machines.
Can be provided as part of the automatic selector wedge replacement assembly 5
And is scheduled. For example, a selector belt 13 is shown in FIG.
Some movable wedge storage pallets if they have a relatively longer length than
Can be positioned continuously and next to each other along the frame 8 of the packaging machine 7
The elongated horizontal guide rails 52 extend along the length of the packaging machine and
The last wedge storage pallet is similar to the third wedge storage pallet 73 shown in FIG.
