Demand is growing. These capacitors need to minimize output voltage variations at the switching frequency and power supply harmonics. They are also used to provide local power to the microprocessor chip and maintain the power supply voltage to an acceptable limit as processor current demand shifts.

A possible high-frequency impedance / ESR performance was obtained. However, the space available for mounting such a system of chips is increasingly decreasing as manufacturers design systems that are even smaller and more efficient. Also, the manufacturer must bear the cost of each mounting connection to assemble such a circuit, and the variation in the interconnect circuits is a cause of the differences in the resulting ESL between board manufacturers. In order to form a capacitor having characteristics, the connection distance between the capacitors is minimized. The multi-element capacitor of the present invention minimizes fluctuations in the power supply output voltage, thereby improving the logic error rate of a dependent circuit such as a microprocessor, and thus improving the stability of the entire system. Reduced capacitor spacing and uniform interconnect structure also improve system transient response times, reduce power supply noise,
Even if a small number of capacitors are used, a given stability can be provided in a specified temperature and voltage fluctuation range. Assembling the metal oxide and ceramic capacitors under uniformly controlled factory conditions reduces damage (eg, thermal shock cracks and / or flex cracks) to the ceramic capacitor elements during board assembly; Improve reliability.

At frequencies just above z, a significant improvement in performance is shown, indicating that an optimal improvement is obtained between 2 and 10 MHz. Analysis of the circuit has shown that this improvement persists at least up to 100 MHz.
Specifically, by adding a ceramic element to a casing having two tantalum capacitor elements, the impedance of this combination is approximately 10 MHz at 10 MHz as compared to the impedance of two tantalum capacitor elements without the ceramic capacitor element. An order of magnitude improvement, with a 3-4x improvement in ESR at the same frequency.
