Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display system in which safety is improved, no dazzlement is provided, display is clearly seen by a driver of the vehicle and is hardly seen by a driver of succeeding vehicle. SOLUTION: A 1st polarized film 12 is placed on a display panel of an on- vehicle display device 11, a 2nd polarization film 13 is placed to a rear window of the vehicle or at least part of the area in the vicinity of the rear window so that the polarization characteristic of the film 13 is nearly at a right angle to the polarization characteristics of the 1st polarization film 12. Thus, a driver 18 taking a ride on the vehicle sees a linearly polarized light 15 transmitted through the 1st polarization film 12 and sees clears the display of the on-vehicle display device 11. However, since the linearly polarized light 15 is shut by the 2nd polarization film 13 and does not almost pass, then drivers 17 of succeeding vehicles cannot almost see the display and no dazzlement is given to them.

2. Description of the Related Art Recently, vehicles equipped with a car navigation system have been remarkably popularized. In addition, many vehicles are equipped with a TV. In such conventional in-vehicle display devices (monochrome and color), the display light emitted from the display screen is designed solely for the purpose of improving the visibility of the driver and passengers of the vehicle, and the surrounding light is reduced. Although there is a function to adjust the brightness of the display correspondingly, no consideration has been given to the dazzling effect on the following vehicle.

However, when a conventional vehicle-mounted display device is used, as seen from the driver of the following vehicle 3 as shown in FIG. The screen light of the display screen 2 of the car navigation system, TV, etc. of the vehicle 1 can be seen, so that it may be misidentified as a brake lamp or may attract the driver's line of sight. There is a disadvantage that the properties are greatly reduced.

[0004] In particular, in the case of a type that is installed later, rather than a type that is incorporated in a dashboard, the installation point is relatively high, and thus it is often located on an extension of the line of sight of the driver of the following vehicle. Therefore, during a traffic jam, a driver of a following vehicle may be distracted by a television broadcast displayed on a display of a preceding vehicle, or an accident may occur such that a red display is mistaken for a high-mount stop lamp.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS The principle and embodiments of a vehicle-mounted display system according to the present invention will be described below. First, the principle of the present invention will be described with reference to the schematic diagram of FIG. In the figure, 11 is CR
In-vehicle display devices such as T, PDP (plasma display panel),
Reference numeral 12 denotes a screen polarizing filter to be attached to the display surface of the on-vehicle display device. Reference numeral 13 denotes a rear polarizing filter provided on the rear portion of the vehicle such as a rear window. When a liquid crystal display device is used as the on-vehicle display device 11, the display surface has polarized light. Since the filter is integrally provided, the polarizing filter 12 for screen is used.
Is omitted.

With such a configuration, the display light 14 from the on-vehicle display device 11 passes through the screen polarizing filter 12, and as shown by reference numeral 15 in FIG. (Direction of a polarizing plane that can be transmitted; horizontal direction in the figure) is linearly polarized light having a polarizing plane in the same direction. In the figure, the light 15 is mostly polarized in the horizontal direction, but is shown to include a slight vertical polarization component. This represents a case where the polarization characteristics of the screen polarizing filter 12 are not 100%. In this state, the linearly polarized light 15 is visible to the driver and the passenger 18 in the vehicle, so that the display on the in-vehicle display device 11 is clearly visible.

The linearly polarized light 1 passing through the polarizing filter 12
5 reaches a rear polarizing filter 13 provided at the rear of the vehicle such as a rear window, and the polarization direction of the rear polarizing filter 13 is set to be orthogonal to the polarization direction of the polarizing filter 12 (see FIG. In this case, the light 15 is blocked by the rear polarizing filter 13 and hardly passes. In the figure, for illustration purposes,
The light 16 that has passed through the rear polarization filter 13 is illustrated, but the polarization characteristics of the polarization filters 12 and 13 are 100.
If it is%, this light is absent. Therefore, the driver 17 of the following vehicle is provided with the in-vehicle display device 11 of the preceding vehicle.
Is almost invisible and has no dazzling effect.

As described above, the display light 1 of the in-vehicle display device 11 is
If the polarization direction 5 and the polarization transmission characteristic of the field of view behind the vehicle are set so as to have a blocking relationship, the display light 15 cannot pass through the field of view behind, and as a result, the driver 17
The display light is difficult to reach the eyes. The present invention is an application of this function.

Specifically, it can be easily realized by arranging the polarizing films 12 and 13 so that the polarizing directions are orthogonal to each other. It is to be noted that the driver in the vehicle has a feature that the brightness of the display does not decrease so much and can be clearly recognized.

As is apparent from the above description, according to the vehicle-mounted display system of the present invention, the polarization direction of the display light emitted from the display screen of the vehicle-mounted display device and the polarization transmission direction of the rear view of the vehicle are determined. Are arranged so as to be substantially orthogonal, the display is clearly visible to the driver and the passenger of the vehicle, and the display of the display is difficult for the driver of the following vehicle. It has no dazzling effect and contributes to danger prevention and driving safety. In addition, at night, an anti-glare effect for dimming strong light from a headlight from a following vehicle with a polarizing filter provided in a rear window can be expected.
