Selective catalytic reduction of nitrogen oxides
The present invention can occur in various processes, such as burning fossil fuels, and is harmful to the environment and regulated.
Controlled nitrogen oxides (NOx) Regarding improvement in emission control. More details
In particular, the invention relates to the selective catalytic reduction of nitrogen oxides to nitrogen.
NOxAir pollution caused by emissions has recently become a global concern
. Nitrogen oxides contribute to acid rain and photochemical smog, causing problems with absorption organs.
Can rub. Near-surface ozone is produced not only from volatile organic compounds, but also from oxides of nitrogen.
Is also formed in the atmosphere by a photochemical reaction.
NO in industrialized countriesxThe main sources of emissions are transportation, power generation equipment and industrial boilers.
It is. NOxMany are products of the combustion of fossil fuels such as coal, oil or gas
It is.
NOxStrict regulations on emission control are currently being implemented in industrialized countries,
NOxEmission limits are continuously revised and NOxBenefit toward the goal of zero emissions
There are demands for effective control. For example, in California, 9 ppm or
If the emission limit is less than 5860 kW (20 million btu / hr)
Imposed on industrial boilers. NOxDue to these stringent regulations on emissions,
Typical NOxThe development of suppression techniques has recently become important. Until today, NOxEmission control
The most effective technology for control is NOxSelective catalytic reduction (SCR).
In this method, NOx(NO + NOTwo) Is usually 250-400 on the catalyst.
NH at ° CThreeBy NTwoAnd HTwoReduced to O. The following reactions occur:
4NO + 4NHThree+ OTwo → 4NTwo+ 6HTwoO
6NOTwo+ 8NHThree → 7NTwo+ 12HTwoO
2NOTwo+ 4NHThree+ OTwo → 3NTwo+ 6HTwoO
Usually NOxMore than 80% by volume is in the form of NO, so the first reaction

A complex and expensive device is required for safe handling.

Tungsten-vanadia based catalysts are primarily active at low temperatures.

Used in commercial facilities. However, even with these catalysts

About the flexibility of the location of the SCR reactor in the integrated flue gas cleaning unit
Heat exchanger costs in applications where flue gas temperatures exceed this temperature limit
Invite. From a practical point of view, the selectivity and activity of the catalyst is maintained over a wide temperature range.
Should be retained.
NHThreeNO byxAnother major disadvantage associated with the selective catalytic reduction of
Unacceptably high lip, known as "ammonia slip"

It is well known. The ammonia slip is, in principle, the ammonia /

Clogging and, more desirably, clogging of catalyst pores.
You. Clogging of the catalyst pores eventually leads to a constant NHThree/ NO ratio to deactivate the catalyst
Near slip will increase. The loss of activity is due to the NHThreeIncreasing the / NO ratio

Therefore, one object of the present invention is to overcome the above disadvantages and to directly

Another object of the present invention is to provide nitrogen oxides that avoid the use of dangerous or harmful gases.
To provide an improved method for the selective catalytic reduction of
Thus, according to the present invention, nitric oxide, nitrogen dioxide or a mixture thereof
About 250 to 600 using a reducing agent comprising an aliphatic carboxylic acid having 1 to 5 atomic atoms.
At ℃, selected from the group consisting of vanadium oxide, copper oxide, nickel oxide and iron oxide
In the presence of a catalyst containing a metal oxide (the catalyst is supported on a porous support)
And a method for selective catalytic reduction to nitrogen.
The inventor has determined that the reduction is carried out within the above temperature range and in the presence of the catalyst as defined above.
Then, by using an aliphatic carboxylic acid having 1 to 5 carbon atoms as a reducing agent,
That direct, substantially complete reduction of nitrogen oxides can be achieved.
I found it unexpectedly.
The carboxylic acids used in the present invention, in addition to being environmentally safe,
They have very reactive or unstable hydrogen atoms in their structure. NO

The product is NTwo, COTwoAnd HTwoO's
Including only Under these conditions, complete oxidation of the intermediate product occurs.
The overall reaction is as follows:
NO + ROOHcatalyst→ NTwo, COTwo, HTwoO (1)
NOTwo+ ROOHcatalyst→ NTwo, COTwo, HTwoO (2)
NO + ROOH + OTwo catalyst→ NTwo, COTwo, HTwoO (3)
NOTwo+ ROOH + OTwo catalyst→ NTwo, COTwo, HTwoO (4)
Here, R represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms.
The mechanism of the selective catalytic reduction of NOx by RCOOH is thought to be as follows.
Is:
RCOOH + 2S ← → ROOads+ Hads (5)
NO + S ← → (NO)ads (6)
(NO)ads+ Hads → (NO ・ H)ads+ S (7)
(NO ・ H)ads+ Hads → Nads+ HTwoO + S (8)
Nads+ Nads → NTwo (9)
ROOads [O]→ COTwoAnd HTwoO (10)
Here, S represents a vacant surface site, and the subscript 'ads' is adsorbed on the catalyst.
Represents a seed that has been removed.
In addition to reactions (1)-(4), undesirable side reactions (11) can also occur.
Would. That is, RCOOH is converted to O by the following overall reaction. Two(Fuel burner fuel
(Present in the flue gas) will be oxidized to some extent:
RCOOH + OTwo → COTwo, HTwoO (11)
The RCOOH-based selective catalytic reduction according to the present invention,
The defined catalyst is useful for promoting reactions (1) to (4) and suppressing side reaction (11).
It is effective.
The amount of metal oxide on the support ranges from about 5 to about 50 mol%, more preferably about 8
It can vary from about 20 mol% to about 20 mol%. All of the catalyst (BE
