Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain the occurrence of an after-image phenomenon and to secure the quality of a printing result even under the conditions of a region, a season and indoor air-conditioning where remarkably low humidity environment and high humidity environment are caused, by varying the relative velocity between a cleaning device and a toner acceptor in accordance with an environmental state and controlling the number of revolution of the toner acceptor or the actuating time of the cleaning device. SOLUTION: One additional cleaning stage is executed in addition to a normal cleaning stage for residual toner on a transfer drum 3 in accordance with the change of an atmospheric environment in the periphery of the transfer drum 3. A means for correcting impressed voltage on a photoreceptor belt 1, a developing device 2, the transfer drum 3, a transfer roller 5 and a cleaning brush 6 or the like based on the result measured by a temperature humidity sensor 12 is provided. In the case that the change of the atmospheric environment is detected as a result of measuring with the temperature humidity sensor 12, it is judged by a control part 14, and the number of the cleaning times of residual toner in the cleaning process is increased, and time when the cleaning brush 6 is brought into contact with the toner is increased, so that the residual toner is reduced.

As described above, means for correcting the applied voltage to the photosensitive belt, the developing device, the transfer drum, the transfer roller, the cleaning brush and the like in the atmosphere inside the electrophotographic apparatus is provided. Even in electrophotographic devices, it is possible to correct the fluctuations in charging performance and electric resistance due to changes in the environment to some extent, but as a result of investigating the quality of print image quality and the generation environment in the models currently sold in the market, For indoor environments in winter and summer environments in South America,
A long-term and extremely low-humidity environment or high-humidity environment that cannot be followed by the above-mentioned correction control means of the current model occurs. Therefore, the image due to the residual toner generated due to insufficient cleaning of the previous page appears on the image of the next page. It has been found that there is a case where a printing defect called "afterimage phenomenon" occurs in which images of two pages overlap each other.

Further, in this figure, as a photoconductor cleaning device for cleaning the toner remaining on the photoconductor belt 1 after transferring the toner image on the photoconductor belt 1 to the transfer drum 3 below the photoconductor belt 1. A cleaning blade 7 is provided. It goes without saying that the same cleaning brush 6 provided for cleaning the transfer drum may be provided instead of this cleaning blade. In the case of the present embodiment, the photoconductor cleaning device is always in contact with the photoconductor belt to perform the cleaning operation. On the other hand, the cleaning brush 6 is normally placed on the transfer drum 3 in order not to disturb the toner image on the transfer drum 3 until the toner images on the transfer drum 3 have been transferred onto the recording paper 9 after being superposed by four colors. However, the residual toner 10 that is not completely transferred is scraped off by being abutted on the transfer drum 3 during the cleaning process after being transferred to the recording paper 9.

Here, for some reason, the efficiency of the process of retransferring the toner image on the transfer drum 3 onto the recording paper 9 is reduced, or the four colors for developing the toner image on the photosensitive belt 1 are reduced. If the amount of development of the developing devices 2Y, 2M, 2C, and 2K for a minute increases, the residual toner 10 after the retransfer process onto the recording paper by the transfer roller 5 increases, and the residual toner 10 is scratched by the cleaning brush 6. When all the residual toner 10 cannot be scraped off in the taking process, and the image due to the uncleaned toner overlaps with the image of the next page which is being formed on the transfer drum 3 and appears as a residual image. There is.

The transfer drum 3 which is the cause of these problems
The reason why the efficiency at the time of transfer from the top onto the recording paper 9 and the amount of development of the toner image on the photoconductor belt 1 increase are mainly due to the humidity of the ambient environment around the electrophotographic apparatus and the toner / photosensitivity. This is due to fluctuations in electrical resistance of the body, transfer drum, transfer roller, cleaning brush, etc., and fluctuations in charging efficiency.

In response to these fluctuations, generally, a sensor for directly or indirectly detecting these states is provided in the electrophotographic apparatus, and based on the measurement result, the control section controls the photosensitive belt 1, In many cases, there is a means for correcting the voltage applied to the developing devices 2Y, 2M, 2C, 2K, the transfer drum 3, the transfer roller 5, the cleaning brush 6 and the like.

First, the cause of the decrease in efficiency in the process of retransferring the toner image on the transfer drum onto the recording paper will be described with reference to FIG.

FIG. 2 is a principle view showing how the toner image on the transfer drum is transferred onto the recording paper. Transfer drum 3
Is made of semi-conductive rubber, and the toner image 11 transferred from the photosensitive belt 1 is attached thereto. In the toner image 11,
The recording paper 9 that has been conveyed is pressed by the transfer roller 5. At this time, the toner image 1 is transferred onto the transfer roller 5.
In order to generate an electric field for transferring 1 onto the recording paper 9,
A constant DC voltage is applied.

Now, consider the optimum value of the DC voltage applied to the transfer roller 5. The force F for transferring the toner image 11 from the transfer drum 3 onto the recording paper 9 is the electric field E acting between the transfer drum 3 and the recording paper 9 and the amount of charge q of the toner image 11 existing between them. Are generated according to the equation F = qE. Therefore, if the electric field E that acts between the transfer drum 3 and the recording paper 9 and the charge amount q of the toner image 11 do not have sufficient values, sufficient transfer force F cannot be obtained and transfer efficiency decreases. To do. If the charge amount q of the toner image 11 is low, an excessive amount of toner is developed at the time of development, and the amount of toner that needs to be transferred at the time of being transferred to recording paper increases. Also leads to a decrease in transfer efficiency.

Further, conversely, even if either the electric field E acting between the transfer drum 3 and the recording paper 9 or the electric charge amount q of the toner image 11 exceeds the required value, the transfer efficiency is lowered. .
When the electric field E acting between the transfer drum 3 and the recording paper 9 is too strong, the direct voltage applied to the transfer roller 5 is used in this model in which the distance between the transfer drum 3 and the recording paper 9 is constant. This means that V is high, and in this case, the electric charge of the DC voltage V neutralizes and reduces the electric charge of the opposite polarity of the toner image 11, and the transfer efficiency is reduced. Further, when the charge quantity q of the toner image 11 is too strong, the electric field E is neutralized / reduced by the potential generated by the charge quantity of the toner image 11, and the transfer efficiency also decreases. To do.

However, the charge amount q of the toner is generated by frictional charging of carrier particles and toner particles in the developer,
Since it is an electrostatic phenomenon held by the insulation resistance of the toner, the degree of influence by the humidity of the atmosphere is very high.

The electric field E is generated by the potential difference between the DC voltage V applied to the transfer roller 5 and the potential charged on the transfer drum 3, but toner is not present between the transfer roller 5 and the transfer drum 3. The image 11 and the recording paper 9 share the voltage corresponding to the volume resistance thereof. On the other hand, the recording paper 9 and the toner image 11 also have a very high dependence of the volume resistance on the humidity. The change in the state of the electric field E between the transfer drum 3 and the transfer drum 3 depending on the environment is very difficult to grasp.

When the transfer efficiency is lowered, the amount of the residual toner 10 remaining on the transfer drum 3 is increased, so that the toner cannot be collected in the cleaning process in time, resulting in insufficient cleaning of the previous page on the image of the next page. Printing defects called "afterimage phenomenon" occur in which images due to the generated residual toner overlap and images of two pages appear to overlap.

The principle of the cleaning operation in the cleaning process is as shown in FIG. 2, in which the rotating cleaning brush 6 is brought into contact with the transfer drum 3 while applying a DC voltage having a polarity opposite to that of the toner charge, and the residual toner 10 is scratched. While taking, electrostatically attracted to the cleaning brush 6 side. At this time, the higher the DC voltage applied to the cleaning brush 6, the better the efficiency.
There is an appropriate point, because it charges itself and prevents the image formation on the next page.

Specifically, based on the result measured by the temperature / humidity sensor 12, a means for correcting the applied voltage to the photosensitive belt, the developing device, the transfer drum, the transfer roller, the cleaning brush, etc. is provided, and the temperature / humidity is also provided. As a result of the measurement by the sensor 12, when the change to the low humidity below 30% RH or the change to the high humidity atmosphere environment above 70% RH is detected, the control unit 14 judges and detects the residual toner. The number of cleanings in the cleaning process is increased, the contact time of the cleaning brush is increased, and the residual toner is reduced.

Although FIG. 3 is a flow chart in which the number of rotations of the transfer roller is simply increased during cleaning,
As shown in FIG. 4, the case where the relative speed (the rotation speed of the cleaning brush is increased) is changed is added. That is, based on the result measured by the temperature and humidity sensor 12, the photosensitive belt, the developing device, the transfer drum, the transfer roller,
A means for correcting the voltage applied to the cleaning brush and the like is provided, and the temperature and humidity sensor 12 measures 30
When a change to a low humidity below% RH or a high humidity environment above 70% RH is detected, the control unit 14 makes a determination and the rotational speed of the cleaning brush during the cleaning process of residual toner. Is doubled, and the cleaning period is set between two rotations of the transfer drum. The same effect can be obtained by reducing the rotation speed of the transfer drum to half speed instead of rotating the transfer drum twice. Although changing the rotational speed of the transfer drum changes the relative speed between the surface speed of the transfer drum and the rotational speed of the cleaning brush, the relative speed changes as compared to the case of increasing the rotational speed of the cleaning brush. Since they are small, they are explained separately here. That is, the speed of the transfer roller is halved.
Lowering is to increase the contact time of the cleaning brush per unit time, or changing the relative speed increases the rubbing force during cleaning.

Further, since the influence of the atmosphere environment is also influenced by the elapsed time in the atmosphere, there is a possibility of making an erroneous judgment depending on the boundary condition of the judgment of the cleaning process strengthening. Therefore, the cleaning process of the residual toner should be changed. An operation switch 13 as shown in FIG. 1, which can be manually selected by force, may be provided.
