Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an ink composition for an oil-based ball-point pen, comprising a specific thiadiazole derivative, a colorant, a resin and an organic solvent, good in lubricity when used in a ball-point pen, capable of providing smooth writing quality and having excellent preservation stability. SOLUTION: This ink composition for an oil-based ball-point pen comprises (A) a 2,5-dimercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazole of formula I or its salt [e.g. a compound of formula II (R is NH4 , an organic amine or an alkali metal)], (B) a colorant (e.g. an oil-soluble dye or a pigment), (C) a resin (e.g. a ketonic resin or polyvinylpyrrolidone) and (D) an organic solvent (e.g. benzyl alcohol or phenoxyethanol). The amounts of the components based on the total amount of the composition are respectively 0.01-10wt.% component (A), 0.5-50wt.% component (B), 0.1-50wt.% component (C) and 40-90wt.% component (D).

2. Description of the Related Art In order to make the ink at the beginning of writing with an oil-based ballpoint pen appear smoothly and to give a smooth writing feel, the ink used for it contains colorants, organic solvents, resins, etc., as well as fatty acids such as oleic acid. It is often mixed. However, since these fatty acids have the property of corroding copper or copper alloys, they have the drawback of significantly shortening the shelf life of the ballpoint pen when the chips used in the ballpoint pen are made from them. For this reason, the use of corrosion-resistant metal such as stainless steel in the tip holder has been increasing in recent years. However, since stainless steel used for the tip is required to have high machinability, it is represented by SUS304. Corrosion-resistant stainless steel such as that cannot be used due to its characteristics. Therefore, for the oil-based ballpoint pen tip, free-cutting stainless steel, which is relatively inferior to stainless steel in corrosion resistance but is excellent in machinability, is used. However, in the free-cutting stainless steel, when acids such as fatty acids are present in the ink and the water content is 2% or more, deterioration of quality due to corrosion is likely to occur like the copper alloy. In addition, various inks in which other substances are added instead of fatty acids represented by oleic acid have been proposed, but the effect is often insufficient.

As the colorant used in the ink composition of the present invention, known dyes and pigments used in conventional ballpoint pen inks can be used. For example, as the oil-soluble dye, a dye soluble in the above-mentioned solvent, for example, Varifast Color (registered trademark of Orent Chemical Co., Ltd.), Aizen spirone dye, Aizen SOT dye (Hodogaya Chemical Co., Ltd.) , Registered trademark name) and the like.
Further, as the pigment, titanium oxide, carbon black,
Examples thereof include inorganic pigments such as metal powder, and organic pigments such as azo lake, insoluble azo pigment, chelate azo pigment, phthalocyanine pigment, perylene and perylene pigment, anthraquinone pigment, quinacridone pigment, dye lake, nitro pigment and nitroso pigment. These colorants may be used alone or in combination of two or more, or a dye and a pigment may be used in combination. The content thereof is preferably in the range of 0.5 to 50% by weight in the ink composition. If the amount of the colorant exceeds 50% by weight, the pigment may agglomerate or the dye may deposit during long-term storage, causing clogging on the pen tip, resulting in poor writing. If the coloring agent is less than 0.5% by weight, the coloring becomes weak and the hue when written on paper is not known, which is not preferable.

The organic solvent used in the ink composition of the present invention is a solvent which is commonly used in oil-based inks for ballpoint pens, that is, one which dissolves or disperses the above-mentioned colorant and has a relatively high boiling point. It Examples of such substances include benzyl alcohol, phenoxyethanol, carbitols and cellosolves. These may be used alone or in combination of two or more, and the content thereof is 40 to 90% by weight in the composition.
Is preferred. When the organic solvent content exceeds 90% by weight, it is difficult to keep the viscosity of the ink composition in an appropriate range, and the ink is stored directly in the ink containing tube normally found in oil-based ballpoint pens. Can no longer hold ink. On the other hand, if it is less than 40% by weight, it becomes difficult to stably dissolve the colorant and the resin, and writing failure occurs during long-term storage.

The resin in the ink composition of the present invention is a resin commonly used in conventional ink compositions for oil-based ballpoint pens, such as ketone resin, sulfamide resin, maleic acid resin, ester gum, xylene resin, alkyd resin, and phenol resin. , Rosin resin, butyral resin, polyvinylpyrrolidone, etc. are used. These resins may be used alone or in combination of two or more, and the content thereof is 0.1 to 50% by weight in the ink composition.
It is. These resins impart an appropriate viscosity to the ink composition. When a pigment is used as the colorant, it also acts as a dispersant. When the amount of the resin exceeds 50% by weight, the viscosity of the ink composition becomes higher than the proper range and sufficient followability during writing is lost. Also,
When the amount is less than 0.1% by weight, sufficient viscosity cannot be imparted, and therefore when the amount of the organic solvent exceeds 90% by weight, the ink cannot be retained by the same inexpensive and simple ink storage method.

The ballpoint pen using the ink composition of the present invention has a smoother handwriting feel than that of conventional ink compositions containing fatty acids such as oleic acid and has very high storage performance. The reason for this is the low corrosivity of 2,5.
It is considered that this is because dimercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazole is adsorbed on the material of the holder to form a lubricating film and improve the lubrication between the holder and the balls.

Next, the present invention will be described in more detail by way of examples. The forced deterioration test for confirming the storage stability was conducted as follows. In addition, for the tip holder of either phosphor bronze or stainless steel, use a ball-point pen having a polypropylene tube as the ink storage tube, a phosphor holder made of phosphor bronze or stainless steel, and a ball having a cemented carbide tungsten carbide (diameter 0.7 mm). Also tested.
