。Detailed Description of the Invention
Vehicle collision prevention device
Field of the invention
The present invention is designed to help drivers maintain a safe distance between their vehicle and the vehicle in front of them.
The present invention relates to a vehicle collision prevention device.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Failure to maintain the correct distance between two vehicles following each other can lead to road accidents.
This is one of the important factors. The distance between adjacent vehicles to their speed under variable conditions
Matching is subjective and depends on a number of factors. Thus, like
For example, lighting conditions, ambient weather, traffic density, road conditions, driver caution, etc. are appropriate.
Safety distance between two vehicles that may cause a rear-end collision if not maintained at
All factors that can affect the driver's ability to hold the distance.
Existing anti-collision systems are either passive or active. Passive
The device allows the driver to drive forward vehicles at normal road speeds (hereinafter "leading" vehicles)
Warn the driver of a following or following vehicle when approaching too close
. If a warning is provided, the first step here is for the driver to take appropriate preventive action.
And.
In contrast, a servo control system typically connected to a throttle valve
Include and thus allow the driver a safe distance from the lead vehicle for normal road speeds.
If not maintained, the following vehicles will automatically be based on the reduced distance between the two vehicles.
To reduce the road speed to a safe stop speed.
Less. US Pat. No. 4,706,195 (Yoshino et al.)
An active speed control system is described.
The system disclosed by Yoshino et al. Measures the distance from the leading vehicle to the following vehicle.
The speed of the following vehicle is based on the laser radar
Determined by
Passive systems must also consist of at least these two elements.
Obviously not: some sort of determining the distance between two vehicles
Rangefinders of the kind and also means for determining the speed of following vehicles. However, in reality
Passive and active systems are commercially available for several reasons.
It was discovered that it proved difficult to do. First, special for each vehicle
A system that can be easily connected to existing vehicles without the need for make-to-order manufacturing
Is difficult to design. As soon as such a make-to-order request is made, this
Raises the price of the system.
Another drawback with the development of such a system relates to the generation of false alarms. False alarm
Is obtained in an active system, the result is not just exaggerated,
Even dangerous in that it tends to lead to a rear-end collision with the vehicle behind
is there. This is because the following vehicle suddenly becomes late (or stops) for no reason
Does not have enough time to take precautionary measures, which may lead to a collision between the two vehicles.
Suddenly lead.
Driver panics as a result of an alert in a passive system
Then suddenly brakes and skids on the driver's own vehicle, or is
For the reasons mentioned above, there is a rear end collision between the driver and the vehicle behind.
False alarms will have similar dangerous consequences if
Will produce.
Camber-free and uniform load on following vehicles on straight, flat roads
It is relatively easy to produce reliable and accurate results when distributed over
is there. However, in practice, we rarely encounter such ideal conditions.
Non-uniform load distribution in the following vehicle changes the tilt angle of the laser beam sufficiently
And produce false results even on flat road surfaces. Thus an example
For example, the addition of heavy luggage in the back seat or in the trunk of a vehicle is a prior art technique.
System may produce inaccurate results. Similarly, the following vehicle
When adjusting the steering angle to turn the cylinder, stop it coaxially with the longitudinal axis of the following vehicle.
Is the direction of the round laser beam failing to catch the leading vehicle in the same lane?
Or, it may collide with a vehicle in an adjacent lane.
Yet another consideration is how to determine the speed of the following vehicle. With digital speedometer
Vehicle for use in digital anti-collision systems.
Extracting the digital readout is straightforward. However, many existing models
The motor vehicle still uses an analog speedometer, in this case its analog output.
Equivalent digitizer for extracting force and for use with digital anti-collision systems
It is necessary to convert it into a le signal. As shown above, this is all
The log speedometers are not the same and require build-to-order manufacturing. Such make-to-order manufacturing is a system
Often increases system prices and makes them commercially unacceptable
. Another drawback associated with existing anti-collision devices is that rangefinders have
Place the rangefinder outside the vehicle, following the fundamental principle of being the first point of contact with the guiding vehicle.
It is typically mounted near the fender.
And. However, if you install a rangefinder on the outside of the vehicle, the rangefinder will
Weather conditions, air pollution including leading vehicle emissions, and factual rangefinder options
Sensitive to dust settling on the chicks, which reduces distortion and inaccuracy
cause.
Laser rangefinders for use in vehicle collision prevention devices are well known.
, And handle a variety of different requirements. Distance meters like this
It can detect a target vehicle that is driving in the same lane as the vehicle to which the meter is adapted.
Sometimes it has to be distinguished from fake targets. Rangefinder in bad weather conditions
Must be able to operate reliably and reliably, and the laser
It must be designed so as not to represent a hazard. In addition, keep the price to a minimum
One must prevent the anti-collision system from being prohibitively expensive.
These requirements impose a bore on the telescope optics for visual observation in prior art rangefinders.
Satisfied by using a very narrow laser beam that is spotted
It The target is placed in the center of the field of view and the high power laser is the target
Used for detection of. In an automated system with such a wide field of view
It is not suitable for use, where only reflections from the target vehicle are measured.
It is essential to ensure and ignore stray reflections from other unrelated objects in the field of view.
is there.
One possible solution is to scan the field of view with a narrow laser beam for digital operation.
Collect all relevant data about and distinguish the vehicle from other targets
Is to find a standard that Such an approach is expensive and in the fog
Unreliable.
U.S. Pat. No. 4,948,246 describes such an approach.
There, a wide field of view is scanned horizontally with a narrow laser beam to drive the motor car.
Get the pattern characteristics of. This method is complicated and
It does not allow identification of motor vehicles of this type.
US Pat. No. 4,757,450 uses multiple laser beams, each laser
Beam is directed to cover each volume in the field of view, where
In addition, a wide field of view can be covered. A proper calculation is a false target
Although the system can be eliminated, the resulting system is not simple and accurate detection in fog is possible.
It is not possible to get out.
In most vehicle collision prevention devices that use laser rangefinders, rangefinders that
It is mounted on the outside of the vehicle, typically on the front fender. This is complete
Not entirely satisfactory. Dust and dirt accumulate on rangefinders
, Which reduces the accuracy of the measurement and avoids such errors.
This is because maintenance and cleaning are required. Also, place the rangefinder on the outside of the vehicle.
Adapting makes the rangefinder tamper-proof and stolen. And other considerations
Installs the instrument for the collision prevention system inside the vehicle,
Requires special wiring to connect to the vessel.
Differentiate true targets from false targets in any rangefinder system
It is obviously essential. In prior art systems this is typically
Uses a large signal-to-noise ratio and thus is the strong reflection the true target?
It is achieved by being interpreted as derived from. This appro
But eliminates false targets, but it reduces the sensitivity of the rangefinder, so
The reflection from the true target is often not strong in bad conditions, and therefore
Rejected as sound signal
To be done. For example, fog disperses a laser beam so that the laser beam is
By the time it is reflected from the target vehicle, the strength of the received signal is very high.
Since it is vulnerable to noise, it is interpreted as noise in ordinary systems and therefore rejected.
Denied.
Mount a rangefinder inside the vehicle to avoid all of these potential drawbacks
It is clearly preferable to do so. However, the accuracy of the rangefinder is not compromised.
And make it even more difficult to distinguish between true targets and surrounding false targets.
However, achieving this end has proved to be very difficult. For more information
, The part of the laser beam is reflected by the windshield itself,
Reduce the intensity of the transmitted beam. In addition, vehicle windshields typically
Provided is a two-layer laminate formed from laminated glass with a sun absorbing layer interspersed therebetween.
It It also absorbs some of the energy of the laser beam,
It causes more loss.
One possible solution to laser power loss is simply a higher power laser
This increases the cost of the laser rangefinder and
Reduces "eye safety". After all, despite the drawbacks, laser distance
The odometer generally remains mounted on the outside of the vehicle.
Yet another consideration relates to how the device represents data to the driver. The alarm itself
Is, of course, typically audible. However, calculated between the two vehicles
The impacted time is more important than the alert itself, and the change in speed of those vehicles is
An important idea when saving a safe stop distance, even before an alarm signal is generated
It is within. Such data is
When presented to the driver via the instrument on the board, this is the driver
Looking down at the dashboard, this causes the dashboard to momentarily remove eyes from the road.
I need to lose. This is especially dangerous when there is a high probability of collision.
It is steep. To be precise, the driver does not lose sight of the lead vehicle, even momentarily
In such cases, it is necessary to fully recognize the existing road conditions.
It

including. One component of the laser beam passes through the windshield and is guided by the leading vehicle.
Although reflected, the second component of the laser beam is reflected directly by the windshield.
And return to the device. This device responds to the time difference between receipt of both components,
Determine the distance between the following vehicle and the leading vehicle.
According to another aspect of the invention,
A laser beam is aimed at the target vehicle to determine the distance between the two vehicles.
Source,
Laser beam continuously on the target vehicle at predetermined time intervals
Means for directing to, and thus reflecting as a reflected beam,
Means for receiving a reflected beam and determining measurements of successive distances between two vehicles
,and
Compare the measured values of consecutive distances or their derived values with their respective safety limits,
1 or 2 or more of the distance measurement value or its induction value is smaller than the respective safety limit value.
If it does, a comparison means to generate an alarm signal,
In a laser range finder for fixing to a vehicle, including
Safety limit value is the first low S / N ratio frequency adaptation limit value and false target
An improvement is provided consisting of a second digital limit set to eliminate
.
In a preferred embodiment according to the invention, the self-speed of the following vehicle is
Counting the pulses of light reflected by a light-reflecting strip glued to the axle of the vehicle.
Determined by: such an approach is universally applicable and
Eliminates the need for build-to-order for different vehicles.
In the improved rangefinder according to the invention, a low S / N ratio is used and thus
Weak signals that can result from a true vehicle in bad weather conditions, eg fog, have been previously suggested.
As in any given system, it will not be rejected. Nevertheless
, Weak signals can be derived from spurious targets, so the reflected signal
The issue is subjected to further analysis to distinguish between true and false targets.

This allows discrimination between moving and stationary targets.
For example, consider measuring 200 ranges over a period of time. Furthermore,
At least 50 of these must be within 3 meters to be considered a valid target
