Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a head of golf club made of a composite material and offer a method of manufacturing such club heads, which can be established with less polishing works, by dispensing with engaging places, eliminating necessity for dimensional accuracy for the head body or weight, and lessening places which undergo a polishing process. CONSTITUTION: An upper die 18 and a lower die 20 are joined so that therein a space 22 of the same shape as a head body is formed, when a weight 12 is positioned in the space 22, and a supporting arm 14 is pinched by the two dies 18, 20. Wax is poured into the space 22 and the weight 12 is held in the wax, which is surrounded by casting sand. Then the wax is allowed to flow out from the sand, and the material of head body in liquid state is poured into the sand, followed by cooling. Thereby the weight 12 is located inside the head body. Then the sand is removed, and the supporting arm 14 protruding to outside the head body is cut off, and thus the objective club head is obtained.

2. Description of the Related Art Conventionally, it has been desired to lower the center of gravity of a club head of a golf club from the viewpoint of extending flight distance and stabilizing directionality. For example, in club heads made of metal such as iron and metal wood, there are methods such as devising the cross-sectional shape to lower the center of gravity, and attaching a material with a higher specific gravity than the material of the main body to a lower position of the main body. It is considered. FIG. 17 shows a conventional club head for a golf club, which is made of a composite material that lowers the center of gravity of the club head by using a main body and a material having a higher specific gravity. The club head of a golf club made of a composite material is composed of two types of members: a head body 40 having a recess 42 formed on the bottom surface and a member 44 having a higher specific gravity than the head body 40. The head body 40 is manufactured by forging or the Lost wax wax casting method.
If a member 44 having a larger specific gravity than the head body 40 is fitted and fixed in the recess 42 on the bottom surface of the head body 40, the center of gravity of the club head can be made lower than that of one made of one material.

When a club head for a golf club is manufactured by the above method, the weight 1 is placed inside the head body 16.
2 can be cast, and it is possible to eliminate the conventionally required fitting portion between the head body and the weight. Therefore,
The dimensional accuracy of the fitting portion required for the club head of the conventional golf club made of the composite material is not required. Further, since the polishing process is performed only on the cut portion of the support arm 14, the polishing portion can be reduced as compared with the conventional one. In the club head of the conventional golf club made of a composite material, when changing the position of the center of gravity, the weight of the head main body had to be increased or decreased, and the shape of the head main body had to be changed. In the club head of a golf club, since the weight of the entire club head does not change even if the position of the center of gravity is changed, it is not necessary to change the shape of the head body.

The method of filling the hole formed by carving out the core 32 is not limited to this.

When a club head for a golf club is manufactured by the above method, the weight 3 is placed inside the head body 16.
Since 0 is cast, the dimensional accuracy for fitting the head body and the weight, which has been required in the past, becomes unnecessary. Further, since the polishing process only needs to be performed on the hole portion where the core 32 is cut out, the number of polishing points can be reduced as compared with the conventional one. Furthermore, the position of the center of gravity can be changed without changing the shape of the head body.

As described above, according to the method of manufacturing the club head of the golf club made of the composite material according to the present invention, when the head body is cast by the lost wax casting method, the weight is placed inside the head body. It was designed to be housed. This eliminates the conventional fitting portion between the head body and the weight, which eliminates the need for dimensional accuracy in the conventional fitting portion and reduces the manufacturing cost. Further, since the polishing process only needs to be performed at the position of the support arm for supporting the weight in the internal space of the mold, the number of polishing points can be reduced as compared with the conventional one. Further, in the club head of the golf club according to the present invention, even if the position of the center of gravity is changed, the weight of the entire club head does not change, so that the position of the center of gravity can be changed without changing the shape of the head body.
