This leads to the commonly known wastewater problem. Furthermore, this water still contains oil components which lead to oil losses. This gives only an oil yield of 83-85%.

The oil / water mixture is separated into three liquid phases, namely an oil phase, an aqueous phase and a mucilage phase (components: water, pectin and a small amount of peel residue), and these phases are continuously spun in a centrifuge drum. The resulting solids (components; pectin and a large amount of peel residue) were discontinuously centrifuged from the centrifuge drum.

The method allows 90% of the water to be returned to the process. This not only reduces the amount of fresh water used, but also significantly reduces the amount of oil separated with the wastewater,
Oil yields of 95-96% are possible.

As a first centrifuge, to which the water mixture is fed after various pretreatments, a centrifuge drum in which the feed passage of the distributor is open to the rise passage of the set of separator plates supported by the distributor. Is equipped with. The separation zone for the supplied oil-water mixture is therefore located in this riseway. The separated water-containing oil moves inward in the radial direction and is discharged from the centrifugal drum through a passage located near the rotation axis. The separated oil-containing water having a viscous substance moves radially outward and is drawn out through a passage extending from the peripheral surface area of the centrifugal drum. The mucilage and the oil component lead to the formation of an emulsion in the aqueous phase. This emulsion may block the separation plate assembly. Furthermore, the majority of the aqueous phase must be derived from the process on the basis of high contamination by oils and mucilages and replaced by fresh water.

Due to the second centrifugation step, the aqueous phase is subjected to a very high load by mechanical action and air impact, so that the emulsion formations which result from this can no longer be separated.
