No. 3,536,963, which is a current collector 1 of an electronic conductor serving as a pair of collector electrodes, a carbon electrode 2 made of activated carbon particles, a non-conductive gasket 3, A single basic cell is composed of the separator 4 for preventing electrons from moving between the electrodes 2.

However, if an attempt is made to realize a required capacity value by increasing the number of cells integrated, the weight and volume increase, which is not suitable for loading on a vehicle. Therefore, in order to increase the energy density, that is, the capacitance value per unit volume or the capacitance value per unit weight, it is necessary to increase the size of the basic cell itself.

The internal resistance of the electric double layer capacitor is greatly affected by the contact resistance of the activated carbon forming the polarizable electrode and the contact resistance between the collector electrode and the polarizable electrode. Needs to apply pressure to the basic cell from above and below. And in the conventional electric double layer capacitor, the pressure applied there is not only the size of the electrode,
A pressure of about 100 kg / cm 2 is required, depending on the size of the particles of the carbon material or the type of electrolyte used.

いる。(Problem to be Solved by the Invention) In the structure of an ordinary electric double layer capacitor, a plurality of cells are pressurized by caulking in order to reduce the internal resistance thereof. For example, the self-standing capacitor disclosed in Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 56-2621 has a case structure shown in FIG. That is, the outer case 5 has the first
The second electrode plate 10 in which the electrode terminals 6 are provided upright from the first electrode plate 7 and the second electrode terminals 9 are upright via the insulating plate 8.
Are stacked and the required number of basic cells 12 to which pressure is applied by the reinforcing plate 11 is housed in the outer case 5, pressure is applied from above the electrode plate 7 at the two terminals 6 and 9 side to the outer case 5. The peripheral edge of the is bent inward to be caulked.

With this caulking method, force is applied to the gasket portion of the basic cell. Since the structure is added, it is necessary to increase the rigidity by increasing the plate thickness of the reinforcing plate 11 and the outer case 5, and there is a limit in terms of overall weight and material cost. Further, there is a problem in that a pressurizing means and a special device for caulking have to be prepared, which complicates a work process for applying an appropriate pressure.

Regarding the amount of compressive displacement indicated by the thick line, the load F increases linearly up to about 2400 kg, and then the amount of increase with respect to the load F decreases due to refraction.

That is, a paste electrode composed of a mixture of granular or fibrous activated carbon and a solvent such as sulfuric acid is enclosed by a gasket generally made of a non-conductive substance such as a hard dust material having elasticity. The elastic modulus is different. Therefore, the initial load F is received by the gasket, and the structure is such that the load applied to the paste electrode having porosity and low bulk density is applied after the bending point P is substantially exceeded. Is.

Is made of a highly rigid metal such as stainless steel and has a circular shape having a size large enough to press only the polarizable electrode 33 of the basic cell 30 as a fixing plate of the basic cell.
Corresponding to No. 1, the center thereof is raised and is in contact with the collecting pole 34 of the basic cell 30.
