こさせる効果、すなわち食品を好ましく見せる効果は有
していない。蛍光ランプは演色改善形蛍光ランプも含め
て赤成分が不十分で、視感的にみて食品の鮮度が悪く見
えるという問題があり、一方白熱電球は見え方は好まし
く見せるものの、蛍光ランプにくらべて熱放射が多いた
め、食品の鮮度を短時間に悪くしてしまうという大きな
問題があった。

た。その評価方法について種々検討した結果、演色評価
数のうち、特殊演色評価数R9(赤色)に対する特殊演色
評価数R12(青色)の比、すなわちR12/R9により評価で
きることを見い出した。発明者らの実験によれば、400
〜460nmのエネルギー量は前記R12/R9が0.9〜1.8の範囲
の値が好ましく、この範囲を下まわるランプ光色は赤味
が強くなり不快感が増大し、すべてのものの色が赤味を
おびるために見え方自体も大きく低下することが認めら
れた。一方、400〜460nmのエネルギー量がR12/R9が前記
範囲を上まわる値に相当するときは、ランプ光色は青味
が強くなりすぎて青紫色となり、生鮮食品のもつ赤味が
不足して好ましく見えなくなることが判明した。従来の
食品照明を目的とした蛍光ランプは400〜460nmの発光エ
ネルギーが不足しているため、R12/R9が前記範囲を下ま
わり、単に赤色を強調するだけで他の色とのバランスが
極めて悪かった。R12/R9が前記範囲内のものは赤色は十
分に強調されるとともに青色とのバランスがよいので、
特に従来の食品の照明を目的としたランプでは全く無視
されていた白色が好ましく見える結果、食品全体が好ま
しく見えることを見い出した。
