Among them, a route for guiding along a route to a destination. There is an induction device. In addition, this route guidance device has a function of informing the driver of the route to be selected when passing through a branch point such as an intersection, and is displayed on the instrument panel of the vehicle as being practically used at present. There is a route guidance device that provides an image display device with a display and notifies the driver of the route.

For example, Japanese Unexamined Patent Publication No. 62-267900 discloses a device which gives a voice instruction when reaching a predetermined position (30 m) in front of an intersection to notify a route. According to such route guidance by voice, the driver does not need to look at the display or the like, and can concentrate on the front monitoring.

Has become. Therefore, when the width of the intersecting road is wide, the difference between the distance from the center of the intersection and the distance from the entrance of the intersection becomes large. The distance to the entrance is originally necessary information for the driver, and when the route guidance is performed based on the center position of the intersection, the driver may approach the intersection earlier than expected due to the error due to the road width. That is, as shown in FIG. 4, the distance L C from the vehicle 1 to the intersection center 2 and the intersection entrance 3
The distance L E does not always match, and the distance L E also changes depending on the width of the intersecting road as shown in FIGS. 4 (a) and 4 (b). FIG. 4A shows a case where the road crosses a wide road, and FIG. 4B shows a case where the road crosses a narrow road. As shown in the figure, even when the distance L C to the intersection center position is equal, the distance to the intersection entrance in the case of FIG. 4A is L E1 , and the distance L E2 in the case of FIG. It becomes shorter (L E1 <L E2 ). Therefore, when the width of the intersecting road is wide, the distance from the voice guidance to the entrance of the intersection is actually short, and there is a problem that the opportunity to turn right or left is missed.

That is, when it is determined that the road crosses a wide road, the distance to the entrance of the intersection is shorter than the distance to the center of the intersection, and therefore guidance is provided early.

Check the location of your vehicle by looking at and get information about future routes. An example of this display is shown in FIG. The selected route in FIG. 2 is shown by a thick solid line 100, and the other roads are shown by a thin solid line 102. The position of the host vehicle is indicated by a circle 104, and the traveling direction is indicated by a wedge-shaped arrow 106. For road display,
It is possible to distinguish not only by the thickness of the line but also by changing the color.

When approaching 8, the display screen changes as shown in FIG. 3, and the intersection name 110 and the distance 112 to the intersection are displayed. Further, the route guidance control unit 26 instructs the voice control unit 30 to generate a voice corresponding to the route guidance at the intersection at the same time as this display switching. The voice control unit 30 reads the information stored as digital data in the voice storage unit, converts the information into an analog signal, and drives the speaker 34. Then, a route guidance is given to the driver from the speaker 34 such as "Turn left at the next intersection." This voice instruction is given every predetermined distance until the vehicle passes the intersection.

The map information storage unit 10 is provided with a lane number storage unit 10a that stores the number of lanes on each road. The route guidance control unit 26 detects the width of the intersecting road based on the information of the current position of the own vehicle obtained by the current position measurement unit 12 and the map information storage unit 10 including the lane number storage unit 10a. In this embodiment, the width of the intersection road is obtained by multiplying the number of lanes by a predetermined value. Of course, the width data may be stored together for each road, and the road width may be detected based on this data.

Based on (Fig. 4), the route guidance point is calculated based on the value obtained by subtracting half the width of the intersection road from the distance from the vehicle to the intersection center position. In this embodiment,
The road width is calculated assuming that the width is 3 m for one lane, and the crossing road is 3 lanes from the center of the intersection when traveling on one lane on each side.
Voice guidance will be provided 50 meters before, and voice guidance will be provided 3 meters before each lane. Also, the enlarged view of the corresponding intersection should be displayed earlier.
In the case of the present embodiment, the above-mentioned voice guidance is first performed, and at the same time, the screen display is enlarged.

It is possible to prevent approaching the corresponding intersection.

When the intersection angle of the road is small, the distance from the center of the intersection to the intersection entrance is long. That is, as in the case where the width of the intersecting road is wide, the difference between the distance to the intersection center and the distance to the intersection entrance becomes large. Therefore, it is also suitable to take the intersection angle of the road into consideration. In this case, when an intersection is approached, the intersection angle of the road at the intersection is calculated based on the information about the road stored in the map information storage means 10. If the intersection angle is small, the route guidance point is set closer to the front. This makes it possible to deal with an intersection having a small road intersection angle.
