Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the capability of genuineness/counterfeit discrimination by reading the watermarked pattern of paper money, etc., by utilizing transmitted light and reflected light and comparing both read data with each other. CONSTITUTION:The paper money 1 inserted into the device is conveyed by a conveying means 2 such as a belt and a reflected light sensor 3 and a transmitted light sensor 6 which are provided at specific positions of the conveying means 2 read data regarding the watermarked pattern of the paper money 1 according to data from a position detecting means which operates in relation with the conveying means 2 each time the paper money 1 moves by specific conveyance length. At this time, both the sensors 3 and 6 are arrayed in a line parallel to the conveyance direction of the paper money 1 so as to read the print pattern at the same position on the paper money 1. Then a CPU compares data outputted by both the sensors 3 and 6 with each other. Consequently, the influence of a noise due to a stain, etc., is limited and the capability of genuineness/counterfeit discrimination can be improved.

FIG. 5 shows a device such as a vending machine.
As shown in (a), the bill 1 is conveyed by the conveyer 2 such as a belt, and the reflected light sensor 3 provided at a predetermined position of the conveyer 2 causes the bill 1 to determine the data regarding the printing pattern of the bill 1. It is common to determine the authenticity of a banknote by reading it every time the transport length of the banknote is moved and comparing it with the data about the printing pattern of the genuine banknote stored in the memory in advance.

Here, the reflected light sensor 3 comprises a light emitting portion 4 and a light receiving portion 5, and the light emitting portion 4 emits visible light of a constant light amount using an LED or the like as a light source and is emitted from the light emitting portion 4. The light beam is applied to the bill 1 and reflected on the surface of the bill 1. Since the amount of the reflected light changes depending on the color or shade of the print pattern, the light receiving unit 5 detects the pattern by receiving the reflected light and converting it into an electric signal corresponding to the amount of light. However, it is difficult to detect a paper sheet, which is a copy of a banknote by a color copying machine, as a fake article, and prohibit the acceptance thereof, using only the conventional apparatus as described above.

Therefore, for example, as shown in FIG. 5B, in order to read the watermark pattern of the banknote 1 together with the print pattern, a light receiving section 5 ', instead of the reflected light sensor, is provided on the upper surface of the conveying path through which the banknote 1 passes. A device which is equipped with a transmitted light sensor 6 which is a transmitted light type optical sensor in which a light emitting portion 4'is arranged on the lower surface and which is compared with the data regarding the printing pattern and the watermark pattern of the genuine bill stored in the memory in advance is described. It was common to use.

However, since a fake bill that is forged by copying a bill with a copier using transmitted light contains a watermark pattern, it is difficult to eliminate it as a fake bill by the above-mentioned authenticity discriminating apparatus. There was a defect that said. There is also a problem in that even if the bill is a genuine bill, the reception is prohibited due to noise caused by a fold line on the bill or dirt.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The present invention has been made in order to eliminate the above-mentioned defects of the authenticity discriminating apparatus for banknotes and the like, and improves the ability of discriminating watermarks on banknotes and noises such as stains. It is an object of the present invention to provide an optical sensor type authenticity identification device that minimizes the influence of the above.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS The present invention will be described below in detail with reference to the drawings showing the embodiments. 1 and 2 are a block diagram and a block diagram showing an embodiment of an apparatus according to the present invention, in which a bill 1 inserted into the apparatus is conveyed by a conveying means 2 such as a belt and the conveying means. Based on the data from the position detecting means 7 that operates in association with the conveying means 2, data regarding the watermark pattern of the banknote 1 by the reflected light sensor 3 and the transmitted light sensor 6 provided at the predetermined positions of It is read every time it moves by the transport length of. At this time, both sensors are arranged on a straight line parallel to the banknote transport direction in order to read the print pattern of the banknote 1 at the same position. Thus, the data output from both sensors are compared by the CPU 8.

For example, as shown in FIG. 3A, in the case of a bill in which the patterns A and B and the watermark 10 are printed on the surface of the paper piece 9, if the bill inserted in the apparatus is a genuine bill, the same figure ( As shown in b), the reflected light sensor recognizes only the printed pattern on the surface thereof, and therefore the level 11 corresponding to the patterns A and B
And 12 and the sensor output exhibiting the level 13 for the paper piece 9 are obtained, while the transmitted light sensor shows the same figure (c).
As described above, since the pattern of the watermark 10 is output as data together with the print pattern, when the CPU 8 compares the output data of the portions of the watermark 10 from both sensors, they do not match.

On the other hand, in the case of a fake bill copied by using the transmitted light type copying machine, the output data of the portions corresponding to the watermark 10 from both the sensors are the same as shown in FIGS. Similarly, in the case of fake banknotes copied by using the reflection light type copying machine, the output data of the portions corresponding to the watermark 10 from both sensors match as shown in FIGS. If they match, the product is identified as a fake product and the acceptance is prohibited.

Further, as compared with the conventional case, the data stored in the memory in advance is not compared with each other, but two data obtained from the inserted bill, which is the object to be identified, are used. Alternatively, noise generated due to dirt or the like is canceled by the data comrades, and can be limited.

Therefore, as described above, according to the present invention, the discrimination ability of the authenticity discriminating apparatus is improved by using only two optical sensors having a relatively simple structure, and the output data from the two optical sensors are compared. Since it is only necessary to store the basic data in advance, it is possible to minimize the memory capacity.

Although the present invention has been described above by taking as an example the one configured to identify the authenticity of banknotes, the present invention is not limited to this, and watermarks of securities other than banknotes, etc. It is obvious that it may be applied to a device for discriminating the pattern. Further, as shown in FIG. 4, the two optical sensors constituting the authenticity discriminating device are composed of a common light emitting part 4, a light receiving part 5 for receiving reflected light, and a light receiving part 5'for receiving transmitted light. It will be clear that equivalent results are obtained.
