Abstract

PURPOSE:To treat starch-containing water by an inexpensive flocculation and sedimentation method without using a biological treatment method. CONSTITUTION:A water-insoluble inorg. powder is added to starch-containing waste water as a filler to be mixed therewith under stirring and an inorg. flocculant is then added thereto under stirring. After the pH of this waste water is adjusted, a polymeric flocculant is further added to the waste water under stirring to perform treatment.

2. Description of the Related Art Since starch is a soluble organic substance, biological treatment such as an activated sludge method and a sprinkling filter method is required for the purpose of complete removal. However, biological treatment requires a large amount of floor space, equipment costs, etc., so it is economically difficult to construct it unless it is a factory that discharges continuously throughout the year regardless of the season.

Means for Solving the Problems As a means for solving the above problems, the present invention comprises adding a water-insoluble inorganic powder as a filler to starch-containing wastewater, mixing and stirring, and then adding and stirring an inorganic coagulant, and then stirring. Another object of the present invention is to provide a method for treating starch-containing wastewater, which comprises adding a polymer coagulant and then stirring the solution after adjusting the pH of the wastewater.

That is, since water-insoluble inorganic powder is added to the starch-containing wastewater, and further an inorganic coagulant and then a polymer coagulant are added, a core for coagulation is formed, which enables coagulation. It can be removed by adsorbing starch when agglomerating and by aggregating and precipitating.

Since the present invention is constructed as described above, it has the following effects. (1) Inexpensive equipment costs are sufficient. (2) The site area can be small. (3) When the starch drainage flows out intermittently, when the starch drainage stops, the conventional biological treatment method needs to provide nutrients in order to utilize the bacteria, whereas the method of the present invention. In the coagulation-sedimentation treatment method, the operation may be performed only when the wastewater flows out.
