Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a small-volume activated carbon-contg. filter capable of efficiently adsorbing the acidic and alkaline materials by incorporating an alkali adsorbent into one of the fluted part and liner part constituting a honeycomb with activated carbon-contg. paper and an acid adsorbent into the other. CONSTITUTION:When activated carbon-contg. paper is formed into a honeycomb, the activated carbon-contg. paper contg. an alkali adsorbent is used for one of the fluted part 1 and liner part 2 and the activated carbon-contg. paper contg. an acid adsorbent for the other. By this constitution, the air to be treated spirals through the tubular passage surrounded by the fluted part 1 and liner part 2 and is brought into contact with the alkali and acid adsorbents, and the alkaline and acidic materials are adsorbed. Besides, since the areal ratio of the fluted part 1 is large, the adsorbent to be used for the fluted part 1 is determined in accordance with the properties of the material contained in the air.

2. Description of the Related Art Various filters using activated carbon have been proposed for the purpose of removing odorous substances and harmful substances contained in the air. As one of such filters, there is an activated carbon-containing filter containing an alkali adsorbent or an acid adsorbent. These filters have an excellent effect of adsorbing acidic substances such as hydrogen sulfide, aldehydes, mercaptans, etc., or alkaline substances such as ammonia, amines etc. which are hard to be adsorbed physically on activated carbon. However, since it can only adsorb either acidic or alkaline substances, it is necessary to stack two types of filters when attempting to adsorb any substance, and it is difficult to install it in a place with limited space such as a room air conditioner. Met. Further, stacking the filters causes an increase in pressure loss, which causes a problem that the load of the blower becomes high.

The present inventors previously proposed a honeycomb filter as an air purifying filter (Japanese Patent Publication No. 59-51423). The filter has the excellent characteristics of high volumetric efficiency of adsorption capacity and low pressure loss. Therefore, as a result of various investigations by the present inventors for the purpose of solving the above problems, they found that the problem can be solved by separately containing an acid adsorbent and an alkali adsorbent in the honeycomb filter. In this case, what is particularly important is not to mix the acid adsorbent and the alkali adsorbent, but to separately contain them in the flute part and the liner part that constitute the honeycomb. When both are contained in a mixed state, they chemically react with each other to change their chemical properties, so that a sufficient effect cannot be obtained.

A more detailed description will be given below. The honeycomb-shaped activated carbon-containing filter used in the present invention is composed of activated carbon-containing paper containing activated carbon fibers and / or granular activated carbon. The activated carbon-containing paper may be composed of activated carbon fibers alone, but in order to enhance the shape retention property, a natural or synthetic pulp material, or a papermaking binder such as PVA fiber may be added. At this time, it is desirable that the active carbon content be at least 10% by weight. The activated carbon-containing paper must be thin enough and have sufficient porosity so that the substance to be adsorbed in the gas can quickly permeate and diffuse into the inside of the sheet. The preferred bulk density for that is 0.1-0.

The activated carbon-containing paper contains an acid adsorbing substance or an alkali adsorbing substance. The acid adsorbing substance is not particularly limited as long as it can adsorb an acidic substance, has low volatility, and is highly stable to some extent,
For example, organic amines such as monoethanolamine, diethanolamine and polyalkylene polyamine, or guanidines such as guanidine phosphate and guanidine sulfamate can be used. The alkali adsorbing substance is not particularly limited as long as it can adsorb an alkali, has low volatility, and is highly stable to some extent. For example, malic acid, citric acid, tartaric acid, and other organic substances and poly Examples thereof include carboxylic acid. These adsorbents may be added at the time of making the activated carbon-containing paper, or may be attached and dried after paper making. The amount of impregnation is preferably 1 to 50% by weight based on the weight of the filter material.

In forming the above-mentioned activated carbon-containing paper into a honeycomb shape, an activated carbon-containing paper containing an alkaline adsorbent is used in either one of the flute portion and the liner portion, and the other activated carbon-containing paper containing an acid adsorbent is used. To use. With such a configuration, when the air to be treated passes through the tubular passage surrounded by the flute portion and the liner portion while swirling, it comes into contact with both the alkali adsorbent and the acid adsorbent, and the alkaline substance and Any of the acidic substances are adsorbed. Since the flute portion occupies a larger area in the tubular passage, it is decided whether to use activated carbon-containing paper containing an alkaline adsorbent or an acid adsorbent for the flute portion depending on the nature of the substance contained in the air to be treated. Preferably.

A normal corrugated board manufacturing machine can be used for molding. That is, a corrugated sheet (which serves as the flute portion) formed into a corrugated shape is joined to one or both sides of a flat sheet (which serves as the liner portion) to form a corrugated board, and the obtained corrugated board is laminated in a horizontal or roll shape. By doing so, it is formed into a honeycomb shape. FIG. 1 shows a cross-sectional view of a single-faced corrugated cardboard having flat sheets laminated on one side, and FIG. 2 shows a perspective view of a honeycomb-shaped air purification filter in which single-faced cardboard layers are laminated. When corrugated cardboard is molded, it is common to attach an adhesive to the apex of the corrugation and fix it, but since it is fixed to some extent by laminating in the next step, it is not necessary to use an adhesive.

The wave pitch and wave height of the corrugated sheet determine the thickness of the tubular passage formed in the laminated body. The thinner the pressure becomes, the greater the pressure loss when flowing the fluid becomes, but the moving speed of the substance to be adsorbed in the fluid to the pipe wall becomes high, and the length of the laminate required for the treatment can be shortened. Therefore, it is necessary to have an appropriate thickness, and the preferable wave pitch is 30 to 150 per 30 cm, and the preferable wave height is
It is 0.6 to 3.0 mm, more preferably 0.8 to 2.5 mm. The value obtained by dividing the wave height by the thickness of the carbon fiber-containing paper is preferably 3 or more.
