<Prior art> Conventionally, with this type of answering machine, it was only possible to get a rough idea of how long it would take to play back a message received and recorded while the person was away, etc. by looking at the amount of tape wound. In particular, when playing by remote control (hereinafter referred to as remote control) through a telephone line, the tape cannot be seen, so there is no way of knowing how long such playback will take, especially if the message is long.
For some reason, such as using a public phone, I had to stop listening midway through playback.

<Purpose> The present invention has been made in view of the above points, and aims to solve the inconveniences of conventional devices.
To provide an answering machine capable of knowing in advance the required playback time required for message playback when playing the message.

First, when the answering machine starts operating, a counter in the timer circuit 8 is initialized to zero.
When an incoming call is received, the incoming call detection circuit 3 outputs an incoming call detection signal, and the CPU 7 controls the relay drive circuit 4 to close the line 1 by the relay 2, that is, the relay 2 is switched from the terminal to the side.

Next, the CPU 7 gives a command to the tape drive circuit 20 via the buffer circuit 19, thereby running the response tape 21, and transmitting the response message reproduced from the tape 21 to the switch circuit 24.
The signal is further amplified by the recording/reproducing amplifier 23 and then sent to the line 1. When the sending of the response message is completed, the reception recording tape 22 is driven to run and reception recording begins. That is, at this time, the received voice signal from the caller, which is supplied from the line 1 via the relay 2, the recording/reproducing amplifier 23, and the switch circuit 24, is recorded on the tape 22. When recording starts in this way, the clock circuit 8
The counter starts counting. Thereafter, when the voice detection circuit 5 and busy tone detection circuit 6 detect that the caller has finished speaking, the CPU 7 stops the above-mentioned reception recording and time counting operations and releases the line. When a call is received again, the same operations as when the previous call was received, such as closing the line, playing the response message, starting reception recording, and counting the time, are resumed and continued. The recording time for each incoming call is accumulated.

On the other hand, if you want to know the cumulative time mentioned above by remote control operation from a distance through an external telephone, you can record the reception by operating a specified remote control transmitter near the mouthpiece, that is, by transmitting a remote control signal. Prior to the arrival of a signal instructing playback of the recording tape 22, the count output from the clock circuit 8, that is, the cumulative time, is read into the RAM 12, and based on the contents, the voice synthesis circuit 14 generates a voice message corresponding to the cumulative time. This is line 1.
is transmitted to the caller through tape 22.
The message played back is transmitted.

In this way, with the answering machine of this embodiment, not only can you see the cumulative call time or reception recording time on the display device 13 on the device main body side, but you can also use the telephone answering machine to record reception and recording times from outside the home via the telephone line. This accumulated time can be known in advance when the tape 22 is played back. Therefore, if the current accumulated time is long, you might decide, ``I don't have time to listen, so I'll take my time when I get home.'' or ``I don't have much left on my recording tape, so I'll have to go home and replace it.'' Or, if the cumulative time is short, it becomes possible to operate the answering machine more efficiently by saying, ``I can finish listening to this level quickly, so I can respond to the caller's request immediately after listening.''

Moreover, the cumulative time is measured by a clock means, and the cumulative time is synthesized into voice and sent to the telephone line by a remote control command.
When asking the required playback time by remote control, the required playback time can be quickly found out with an extremely simple operation without requiring any troublesome operations.

In addition, since the time required from starting remote control to listening to the playback time is short, it is possible to decide whether or not to continue listening to the recorded content within a short period of time. Efficient operation of answering machine becomes possible.

Furthermore, based on the input of a remote control signal, the accumulated recording time is synthesized into voice and sent to the telephone line, so it is necessary to record the recording time in advance on a receiving recording means such as a tape. Therefore, the reception recording means can be used efficiently.
