The development of electrophoretic media materials with improved handling properties that have improved these shortcomings has already been promoted. A coating layer is formed by applying an aqueous solution containing the following: Next, the surface of the coating layer is irradiated with ultraviolet rays using a high-pressure mercury lamp in a nitrogen atmosphere or other oxygen-blocking state to cause crosslinking and polymerization to form a polyacrylamide gel film. A method to do this has already been proposed.

Therefore, the crosslinking polymerization reaction for forming the electrophoretic medium layer (polyacrylamide gel membrane) proceeds very smoothly, and a highly homogeneous electrophoretic medium layer is formed. Therefore, compared to an electrophoretic media layer formed on a plastic support without such a resin interlayer,
The electrophoretic medium layer of the electrophoretic medium material of the present invention exhibits even higher resolution.

は次のように推定される。 In the present invention, the oxygen permeability of the laminate of the support and the resin intermediate layer is reduced by providing an oxygen permeation-preventing resin intermediate layer between the electrophoresis layer of the electrophoresis medium material and the support side. The reason why the electrophoretic properties (particularly resolution) of the electrophoretic medium material is improved is presumed to be as follows.

体材料が得られることからも裏付けられる。 As mentioned above, a polyacrylamide gel membrane, which is an electrophoretic medium material, is produced by applying an aqueous solution containing an acrylamide compound and a crosslinking agent onto a support to form a coated layer, and then applying the film under an oxygen-free atmosphere such as a nitrogen atmosphere. It is manufactured by a method in which the surface of the coating layer is irradiated with ultraviolet rays using a high-pressure mercury lamp or the like to cause crosslinking polymerization. In this case, the support and the coated layer of the aqueous solution containing the acrylamide compound and crosslinking agent on the surface of the support are surrounded by a nitrogen atmosphere. However, typical plastic supports are permeable to oxygen, and therefore, a plastic support held under atmospheric conditions will retain a small amount of oxygen within it. Oxygen in this plastic support is liberated from the support by heating by ultraviolet irradiation, and part of it dissolves into the coating layer containing the acrylamide compound and crosslinking agent during the reaction, inhibiting the smooth crosslinking polymerization reaction. . In other words, oxygen enters from the support side while the crosslinking reaction is progressing on the coating film, inhibiting the crosslinking reaction on the support side, and as a result, the surface side and the support side of the gel film (electrophoresis medium layer) that is formed are It is presumed that there will be a difference in the degree of crosslinking polymerization, and the degree of crosslinking polymerization will be non-uniform. This assumption is based on the fact that if a polyacrylamide gel membrane is manufactured in a similar manner using a glass plate with low oxygen permeability as a support, an electrophoretic medium material exhibiting high resolution can be obtained as seen in Reference Example 1 below. This is also supported by this.

It is thought that it plays a protective role (that is, functions as a barrier).

It can be obtained by forming it as a film. In this specification, unless otherwise specified, the term ``dissolution (in water)'' includes both dissolution (in water) and dispersion (in water), and the term ``aqueous solution'' includes both an aqueous solution and an aqueous dispersion. . It also includes a mixture of an organic solvent and water that may be added as desired as a solvent or dispersion medium.

Used in amounts ranging from ~50wt%. By adding a water-soluble polymer, the polyacrylamide gel film becomes plastic, so it will not break during cutting, and the gel film also becomes plastic when drying, improving its brittleness and preventing it from breaking. This has the advantage of being less difficult. Furthermore, the viscosity of the gel film can be controlled by selecting the molecular weight and amount of the water-soluble polymer added.

By adding agarose to the gel film, it is possible to control the viscosity of the solution to an appropriate level by changing the temperature of the gel forming solution, and its fluidity can be stopped. This has the advantage of being easier to do.

る。 In the present invention, the polyacrylamide gel membrane is an aqueous solution in which a monomer represented by acrylamide, a bifunctional allyl compound or acrylic compound (crosslinking agent), a water-soluble polymer, and agarose are substantially uniformly dissolved. It is obtained by radical crosslinking polymerization of a monomer and a crosslinking agent in a three-dimensional crosslinked polymer formed from a monomer and a crosslinking agent, and a water-soluble polymer and agarose are substantially dispersed in the three-dimensional crosslinked polymer formed from the monomer and crosslinking agent. It is presumed that the latter two polymer chains have a structure in which they are entangled with the three-dimensionally crosslinked polymer.
