[Prior Art] In an optical communication system, when connecting an optical fiber to an optical communication unit in a device, it is necessary to provide an extra length in the optical fiber, and generally the extra length is processed in the device. It is well known that there are. However, in the case of submarine optical repeaters and the like, the extra length cannot be processed within the equipment due to space considerations, so it must be done outside the equipment.

After winding the fibers around the grooves 10a, 10b, 15a, and 15b and determining the connection position, the optical fiber in the groove 15a is moved to the groove 16, thereby pulling out the excess optical fiber to the required length and connecting the fiber between the optical components. The connection is reinforced and fixed using the splice fixing part 14. Conversely, by returning the optical fiber in the groove 16 to the groove 15a, it is accommodated in the extra length storage box 12. This makes it possible to minimize twisting of the fibers.

Also, if the extra length is short, store it along the circular groove,
If the material is long, it is stored along the track-like groove so that it can be properly and orderly processed according to the different lengths.

In this case, it is considered advantageous for the surplus length storage work to have a larger number of turns of the optical fibers 20a, 20b depending on the size of the surplus length storage box 12.
Further, the optical fiber placed in the groove is protected with a cushion 18 or the like so that it is not damaged by vibrations, shocks, etc., and is fixed with a lid 21 from above.

[Effects of the invention] As explained above, the optical fiber surplus length processing structure according to the present invention is simpler and more compact than the conventional optical fiber surplus length processing method, and is easy to use as the number of systems increases. It is possible to process the excess length of optical fibers of different lengths, and it is possible to process the excess length reliably and easily without damaging the optical fiber and by minimizing twisting of the optical fiber due to storage. Therefore, it is expected that highly reliable optical communication characteristics will be improved.
